The Kinetic Canine will be hosting Jim Barry, CDBC, CPDT-KA, author of “Positive Gun Dogs: Clicker Training for Sport Breeds”, as he presents a two-day Beginning Gun Dog Seminar on November 20-21, 2010.

About the Seminar

 Day 1 (indoors):

  • An overview of positive gun dog training
  • Clicker training basics
  • Foundation training: Sit, Stay, Heel, Recall
  • Scent games
  • The clicker retrieve

Day 2 (outdoors):

  • Into the field: Adding distance and distractions
  • Introduction to field training equipment
  • The Beginning Retriever, Spaniel or Versatile Gundog Test

Day 1 will be held at an indoor location in south Austin (TBA shortly) and Day 2 will be held outdoors at The Kinetic Canine.  A light breakfast and lunch will be provided both days, as well as coffee and cold beverages.  You will also receive a free autographed copy of Positive Gun Dogs: Clicker Training for Sporting Breeds, the first book on positive gun dog training published in the United States.

CEU’s:  This seminar has been approved for 10.5 CEU’s by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants.

Cost/Payment

The cost for auditing is $175 ($150 Early Bird Registration if registration and payment are received before September 15).   The cost for a working spot is $450 ($425 Early Bird Registration).

About the Presenter

 Jim Barry, CPDT, CDBC, is Reston Dog Training’s principal training instructor.  He is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant under the auspices of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC).  Jim also has the designation of Certified Professional Dog Trainer (Knowledge Assessed) from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, an independent body that administers qualifying examinations for trainers.  He is also a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT).  Jim takes a leading role in the dog training profession.  He he has been editor of the ethics column for the APDT newsletter and manager of the tutorial case study program for members of IAABC.  Jim has served on APDT’s Member Relations and Communications Committee and on IAABC’s Ethics Committee. He is author of The Ethical Dog Trainer (Dogwise, 2008) and co-author of Positive Gun Dogs: Clicker Training for Sporting Breeds (Sunshine Books, 2007).  He is one of only  two trainers in the United States authorized to give awards for field tests sponsored by the UK Gundog Club.
