AKC Obedience
Interested in taking your training to the next level? Looking for a fun, challenging, precision sport to put your skills and teamwork to the test? Try Obedience!
What is AKC Obedience?
AKC Obedience is a sport open to purebred and mixed breed dogs that showcases precision obedience work. There are three levels of competition, novice, open and utility, with titles given to dogs at each level.
What is taught in class?
All the skills needed to compete at the novice level:
· Heel on Leash and Figure Eight
· Heel Free – done off leash
· Stand for Examination
· Recall
· Long Sit (1 minute)
· Long Down (3 minutes)
What do we need to know before starting class?
Dogs should have completed a basic obedience class and be friendly with people and other dogs, as we will be working off-leash during some portions of class. Your dog does not need to know how to heel or have a good stay, as we will be working on these in class!
How long is the class and what does it cost?
The class is eight weeks long and costs $175.
What teaching methods do you use?
All dogs will be worked on a flat, buckle collar or martingale (no choke chains, prong collars or electronic collars allowed). Teaching methods rely on strengthening your relationship with your dog by gaining his attention through rewards and play.
When is the next class?
The spring 2011 class will begin on Thursday, April 7th, from 8-9pm. Call 512-686-3050 or e-mail trainer@kinetic-canine.com to reserve your space and receive registration materials. You can now also register online! Space is limited so early registration is recommended!
