February Classes now registering

The Kinetic Canine has a host of classes starting in February!

Puppy Class — every Monday night; 7pm
For puppies between 8 and 16 weeks who have received at least one set of vaccinations.  Begin basic obedience training, learn how to prevent common puppy problems, and expose your puppy to a variety of new sights and sounds!  This class is ongoing, so there is no wait!  Check out the Puppy Class page for more information.

Basic Obedience – begins Tuesday, February 2nd; 7pm
This six week class is for dogs older than 16 weeks who have had no obedience training or who respond unreliably to basic obedience commands (perfect for out-of-control adolescents).  We cover all the basics: sit, down, stand, stay, coming when called, walking nicely on a leash, and leave it.  We also practice polite greetings, talk about eliminating unwanted behavior and address many common dog behavior issues (barking, jumping up, chewing, digging, etc).  Space is limited, so register now!  For more information, go to our Basic Obedience page.

Novice AKC Rally Obedience — begins Thursday, February 25th; 8pm
This six week class introduces all the skills needed to compete in Novice AKC Rally Obedience — no previous experience necessary.  Rally-O is a much more informal, relaxed version of competition obedience that focuses on skills useful in every day life with dogs.  You and your dog follow a set course of numbered stations at your own pace — each station has a skill that you must complete before moving on to the next one.  Examples of stations are: down stay while you walk around your dog, heeling at fast or slow pace, heel to a sit, etc.  There are three levels of competition (Novice, Advanced and Excellent) and titles are awarded at each level.  For more information, go to our Rally Obedience page.

Tracking Classes!

The Kinetic Canine will be offering an introductory tracking class this spring!  Details are currently being worked out with the instructors, so look for more information soon.

Looking for instructors

The Kinetic Canine is looking for experienced competitors to become instructors at their premises in Driftwood, for two sports, disc dog and tracking.
The ideal candidate (for both positions) is an experienced competitor who is knowledgeable about the sport and training methods associated with it.  Experience teaching or training people and a variety of dog breeds is also preferable.  All classes at The Kinetic Canine are taught using positive reinforcement techniques, and physical corrections will not be allowed to be used in class or recommended for use outside of class.

If you are interested or would like more information, please e-mail trainer@kinetic-canine.com a detailed description of your experience, training philosophy and a rough draft of an outline for a 6-8 week class.
